So the wi-fi in my apt is very unreliable, and has been since Wednesday night. It's my roommate's router, and it looks like it's working okay, but I can only connect for a few minutes every once in awhile. Who the heck knows what's going on here.
Anyway, the point of this is, no posting for the forseeable future, at least until I get back to work on Monday. It's just too frustrating, and I am at the point where some piece of electronic equipment is about to get smashed against the wall.

if you totally loose the ability to see the network then there probably is a signal interfering with the channel the Wifi router is sending on. It happens sometimes with all the pointless new stuff they put through the eather. Try changing the channel in your config.
Thanks for the tip. I suspected that it was one of my neighbors' networks overlapping with mine, but I couldn't do anything about it, since it's I can't get on her computer to change the config on the wireless router. I am addressing the issue now that she's back and we can access the settings :)
At any rate, power cycling all the components seemed to help, and I got back online, finally.
